Manual microscope
This version of the OpenFlexure Microscope does not include motors. There is no autofocus or slide scanning.
This version is the simplest version of the microscope. It is suitable for manual operation using a web-cam like the Logitech C270, to produce a microscope with field of view about 750μm, similar to using a 20x objective. Other optics modules can also be used with this microscope, using the Logitech C270 or other cameras.

Before you start building the microscope you will need to source all of the components listed in the bill of materials (,
).
If are not confident of acquiring all of the correct parts, or you would like to get everything in a single place, there are several vendors offering kits of parts.
The assembly is broken up into several steps:
- Configure and test your printer
- Print the plastic parts
- Prepare the main body
- Prepare the microscope stand
- Assemble the actuators
- Prepare the Logitech C270 HD webcam for mounting
- Assemble the basic optics module
- Mount the optics and the microscope
- Assemble the illumination
- Mount the illumination
- Attach the sample clips
- Complete the wiring
- Assembly complete
There is also an interactive 3D view of the finished microscope.
