The Raspberry Pi Basic Optics Module
This guide is just for creating the basic optics module with a Raspberry Pi camera V2. You can then use this optics module in any OpenFlexure microscope. Note that you will build this module if you follow the complete instructions for the low cost microscope.
For this section you will need:
Tools
- 1 #1 pozidrive screwdriver
- 1 Pi Camera lens tool - This should come with the Raspberry Pi Camera Module v2. If it is missing, you can 3D print a workaround lens remover.
- 1 RepRap-style printer
Materials
- 50 g of Black PLA filament
Electronic Components
- 1 200mm Pi Camera ribbon cable - This is longer than the standard ribbon cable the Pi Camera is sold with!
- 1 Raspberry Pi Camera Module v2
Mechanical Components
Before you start assembly you should 3D print the following STLs in black PLA filament:
- Lens spacer: lens_spacer_picamera_2_pilens.stl - This must be printed in black
- Camera platform: camera_platform_picamera_2_pilens.stl - this could be a different colour!
The next step is assembly.
