Using a 5mm LED instead of the illumination PCB
The new condenser assembly is designed for use with an illumination PCB, containing a white LED and constant-current driver. It is still possible to use a 5mm LED, mounted onto the lid of the condenser, and this page contains instructions for that mounting. It requires, in addition to the parts needed for the regular condenser, two extra self tapping screws, the 5mm LED and resistor, and the condenser led holder.
For this section you will need:
Tools
- 1 #1 pozidrive screwdriver
- 1 heatgun - If a heatgun is not available, the soldering iron can be used.
- 1 precision wire cutters
- 1 RepRap-style printer
- 1 soldering iron
- 1 wire strippers
Materials
- 5 grams of PLA filament
Consumables
- a little solder
Electronic Components
- 1 150 Ohm Resistor - The exact value will depend on the current rating of your LED.
- 1 2 pin Du Pont connector female housing
- 40 mm of Black heatshrink - 4.8mm ID
- 1 Black pre-crimped Female-Female jumper cable (30 cm)
- 35 mm of Red heatshrink - 2.4mm ID
- 1 Red pre-crimped Female-Female jumper cable (30 cm)
- 1 Warm white 5mm LED
Mechanical Components
- Solder the LED
- Print the LED holder
- Mount the LED into the condenser lid
- Continue assembling the condenser as described in the main instructions.
